What is Solutions...actually?
Solutions...actually loves America. Solutions...actually believes that America is specifically designed to facilitate implementing solutions to pressing problems faced by Americans. Unfortunately, Solutions...actually also believes that many in power today are not actually interested in solutions if an issue can, instead, be used to to beat up your opponents, get out your base, win an election and line your own pockets. When the power class actually comes up with solutions, to the greatest extent, those solutions don't seem to be likely to have any meaningful effect on the problem they purport to solve. It would be easy to dismiss this as incompetence, but often the solution also appears to increase conflict and division and thus start the politically enriching cycle detailed above.
What is a Solution?
A "solution" requires a few elements:
- A defined problem (what are we solving)
- Metrics that show the problem exists and that must improve to validate the solution is effective
These 2 elements MUST go together. If you can't measure it, then it does not exist. If you cannot make a reasonable argument that your solution will improve the metrics that reflect the problem then you do not have a good solution. Very simple.
A public policy solution needs more
The above works for all problem solving. This is well known. But public policy needs more. Locking up all men between the ages of 16 and 36 would decrease the crime rate but this is not good public policy. Good public policy should:
- Empower people more than government
- Decentralize power to give individual's more control
- Minimize expense
- Respect the rights of citizens
- Be kind and convey care
- Prevent rather than correct (if possible)
- Use the proper mechanisms of American government
Our commitment
Solutions...actually will never be part of the problem. We won't demagogue and demonize. We won't attack people. We won't attack parties. We won't attack the United States of America. We will do our best to provide actual solutions to actual problems with respect and care for actual people.
Your commitment
If you think the above sounds good to you and you want to contribute to solutions, then welcome. If you want to troll and tear down and disrupt then this is not the place for you. You can subscribe if you commit to being respectful to people an authors on this site.
